If you look at the three basic ways to see how much space is left on your drive, one thing you'll notice is they don't actually agree on their definition of "free" space. The byte count may be the same, but the space used on disk would not. You'd see the same thing if you wrote a 1GB movie file & 1GB of small text files to a drive. ![]() I don't think there is a definitive answer, because it's likely to depend on the specific Mac & how the data aligns to sector sizes when written.
